Even though the Armenian-Turkish normalization process is currently in a passive stage, Armenia has managed to spark a debate on the Genocide issue in Turkey, MP Gagik Minasyan of the Republican Party of Armenia told a news conference Wednesday.
"In the aftermath of the process we managed to move the debate to Turkey. It was a problem we were unable to solve for several decades," he said.
Minasyan characterized the process a triumphant march which will not stop under any circumstances.
Another positive achievement for Armenia, he said, was that the country managed to make the international community realize it is open for a dialogue and has approaches perceivable to all countries (including the United States and EU) except Turkey.
"If a country's policy conflicts with the general logic of international developments, sooner or later certain forces inside that country attempt to bring it on the right path. Situations like this often may split up countries. I don't want to say Turkey may face such threats but that's the general logic," he added.
Speaking of Turkish President Abdullah Gul's recent statement at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), he said the Turkish leader's statement on the liberation of the so-called Azerbaijani lands attests Turkey's policy of imposing preconditions on Armenia.
