Some recent events have cast a shadow on the Turkey-U.S. relations, reported TRT, referring to its sources at the U.S. Administration.
Among them is Turkey’s support for Iran during the adoption of anti-Iranian sanctions at the U.S. Security Council. The Mavi Marmara incident caused serious damage to the Turkey-U.S. relations as well.
The misunderstanding was settled during a Turkish delegation’s visit to Washington. The U.S. leadership made it clear that Turkey was to discus numerous issues, including its military demands, with U.S. Congressmen. Now Ankara has to enter into a dialogue with the U.S. Congress – not only on resolutions on the Armenian Genocide, TRT reports.
The sources also informed TRT that 1/3 of the U.S. Senate members are to be changed this November, and Washington will be busy with elections. Therefore, the resolution will not be put on the U.S. Congress agenda until next January. The same sources point out that the Jewish lobby may join the Armenian and Greek lobbies. However, they stress differences in positions held by different wings of the Jewish lobby, as well as the fact that Ambassador Sirinoglu held meetings with some of their representatives. A contact with the Jewish lobby may be established at the sitting of the U.S. General Assembly, TRT reports.
A delegation led by Ambassador Feridun Sirinoglu discussed issues related to Iran, Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan, as well as the Balkan peninsula, Cyprus, EU, NATO, Turkish-Armenian relations and struggle against terrorism.
