Armenia and Russia have strategic relations, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a joint news conference with his Russian counterpart Dmitry
Medvedev as he referred to the documents signed today between the two countries.
"Our relations are really friendly, strategic, and that is what Armenia's, I hope also Russia's, real, national and state interests require," said Mr Sargsyan.
Off all the documents signed today with the Russian side Mr Sargsyan attached special importance to the one relating to the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Metsamor, and a protocol that allows to introduce amendments in the 1995 agreement, namely to extend the presence of the Russian military base in Gyumri up to 49 years.
"This protocol prolongs the duration of the Russian military and extends the sphere of its activities and enlarges the scale of its geographic and strategic responsibility," said Mr Sargsyan.
