Azerbaijan pursues racist policy against
ethnic minorities,
expert says

Azerbaijan’s racist policy carried out against Armenians years ago now refers to other ethnic minorities residing in the country, ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan said at today’s press confe
rence.“It is indicated in Azerbaijan’s report on ethnic minorities posted on the CoE website as well. Аll points of Azerbaijan’s official report express open enmity against non-Azerbaijanis and non-Turkic speaking residents of the country. The facts concerning regional history are distorted, in particular it is mentioned that in 19 century Armenians massacred Muslims living in the territory of today’s Azerbaijan. It is a pity the UN and other international agencies are not consistent with restoring the truth,” she said.
“The world community trusts Azerbaijan’s assurance that Talyshs, Lezgins and other ethnic minorities are facing no problems. Meanwhile, they fear to speak of real state of things. Shutting their eyes to such conduct, the UN, PACE and other agencies become silent allies of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s ethnic minorities may face fate of Armenians unless the world community is consistent with the matter,” Kharatyan concluded.
