Turks owe much to Armenian architects

Turks owe much to the Armenian architects for all the architectural masterpieces they have in their country now, the Turkish newspaper Radikal said.
"Istanbul is definitely one of the world's most picturesque towns, distinguished by its god-gifted geographical location. It is the only town that has a sea across its territory. But its special beauty is mostly due to its magnificent architectural constructions," says the author of the article, Cengiz Candar.
"Would Istanbul ever exist, hadn’t it been for the Armenians?" he further asks.
The Turkish journalist particularly talks about the Balyan family's contribution to Istanbul's cultural heritage, enumerating one by one the architectural pieces built by the members of that family.
He also speaks about renowned architect Sinan Pasha, referring to his Armenian origins.
"Anatolian Armenians had an inestimable role in making Istanbul a town, and we must bow respect to them. We are also required ponder over our country's becoming a desert in 1915. Whether massacres or genocide, violence or false history, we must realize how all this impoverished our country," Candar says in his article.
