“How shall we pray in Surb Khach?”

“How shall we pray in Surb Khach Church? Shall we pray under the Turkish flags or Ataturk’s portrait? Surb Khach is a museum, not a church,” Chairman of Van-Vaspurakan Compatriotic Union Romik Hovnanyan told reporters.
Speaking about the mass in the Surb Khach Church in Turkey Hovnanyan said that about 6 thousand people from Armenia are expected to attend the mass, but they will have difficulties in crossing Armenian-Georgian and Georgian-Turkish borders.
“At best, around 600 people can cross the border in two days. Besides, the church has an area of about 100 square meters, and there is a room for maximum 100 people in the church,” he said.
According to Hovnanyan, “the Turkish government uses the mass for political purposes, to show the world that allegedly it has no problems with the Armenian side.”
