Turkish Colonel Appointed as Advisor to Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister

Ankara has appointed Unal Odemish as advisor to Colonel General Safar Abyiev, the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan.
According to local Turkish daily Sabah the Turkish armed forces has appointed its colonel in the framework an agreement called Military, Educational, Technical and Scientific Cooperation in the Military Sphere.Further the daily mentions that according to the Agreement signed in 1996 Turkish officers have for 14 years been activity working in the Azerbaijani military establishments and units. Nevertheless, it is the first time a high-ranking Turkish military has been appointed as advisor to the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan.
“Given the fact that Protocols signed with Armenia casts a chill over relations between the two countries, the Turkish military forces has made a very decisive appointment,” explains Sabah.
Turkish colonel Unal Odemish will hold the position for 6 months.
