The Woodrow Wilson Arbitral Award should become a diplomatic tool for Armenia, and Armenia should raise this issue in the rapprochement talks with Turkey, in the UN and in all possible international bodies, head of the Constitutional Rights Union Party (SIM), Hayk Babukhanyan, told a news conference today.
The Woodrow Wilson Arbitral Award, released on November 22, 1920, envisaged handing Erzurum, Van, Trabzon and Bitlis provinces, currently under Turkish rule, to Armenia.
“During 90 years of occupation not only Turkey has remained unpunished, but also has attempted to act more impudently in the cross-state relations, by accusing the Republic of Armenia of occupation,” said Mr Babukhanyan.
In his words, up to date Turkey has been methodically destroying the remains of the Armenian civilization, the Armenian cultural heritage in its territory and currently continues its anti-Armenian actions, “its plans to destroy Armenia.”
What SIM suggests is that Armenia demand Turkey to stop the isolation of the Republic of Armenia, quit the inimical attitude towards it, to recognize the Armenian Genocide, to stop the destruction of the Armenian cultural heritage in its territory, pull its troops out of those territories and pay financial reparations to the heir of the Genocide survivors.
“Those people, who think that they can coax Turkey, organize some festivals, print books, smile to each other [should know] that it is a dangerous romanticism at best, and simply betrayal, at worst. Those people don’t understand that Turkey has been and is the advocate of Pan-Turkism,” added Mr Babukhanyan.
