Armenia-EU consultations held in Brussels

Armenia-EU political consultations were held in Brussels. Armenian delegation was headed by the Head of Armenian Mission to the EU, Ambassador Avet Adonts, whereas EU delegation — by Swedish Ambassador to Political and Security Committee Olof Skoog, RA Foreign Ministry press service informs NEWS.am.
In the course of consultations, the sides discussed the issues on Armenia-EU political cooperation. The delegations also touched upon Armenia’s domestic political situation, global crisis impact on country’s economy and governmental efforts on overcoming its consequences. In this context, it was underlined that EU decided to allocate €100m macroeconomic assistance (€35m — grant, €65m — loan). EU delegation will visit Armenia next February to discuss signing of the memorandum of understanding.
European side expressed readiness to continue assistance to the Armenian reforms, signifying RA Government’s efforts into improvement of domestic political situation. In addition, activities by EU advisory group as well as the launch of Armenia-EU dialogue in human rights protection were welcomed.
EU reaffirmed its support for Karabakh conflict settlement in the frames of OSCE Minsk Group based on Madrid Principles, ruling out possibility of military solution to the conflict and backed statement made at the OSCE ministerial council in Athens. EU restated its assistance to Armenia-Turkey reconciliation, signifying early ratification of the Protocols.
