“The events that took place in Baku in response to the Nagorno-Karabakh people’s demand for self-determination was a monstrous manifestation of Azerbaijan’s policy of strong arm and ethnic cleansing,” RA Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan stated, commenting on the tragic events in Baku, Azerbaijan, 20 years ago.
The result of Azerbaijan’s policy was forcible displacement of 400,000 Armenians, a large-scale military aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh, which cause human and material losses.
"The fact that, instead of admitting its guilt and responsibility for the crimes, Azerbaijan continues an anti-Armenian hysteria and militant rhetoric proves that official Baku still poses a threat to both Azerbaijani population and the entire region, Sh. Kocharyan said.
Armenian pogrom began in Baku on January 13, 1990. Azeri extremists brutally murdered about 100 Armenians.
