The fate of a one and half year old Armenian girls is hanging by a thread. Little Versava has a rare heart defect, her heart beats not inside her chest but her abdomen. Her heart is not covered up and is practically under the skin. A physical impact might be fatal.
NEWS.am Correspondent talked with Dariya Mkhitaryants, the mother of a girl who described the seriousness of baby’s condition. “Back in September we went to Moscow, but we were refused the surgical treatment, explaining that the girl was inoperable at that state. Doctors prescribed a treatment for 6 months”, she said, adding that the medication is very expensive. “The course of a treatment is about 200,000 rubles (over $ 6,500) per month, but we do not have that kind of money”- said Dariya. After 6 months, in March 2011, a girl will get a free surgery. According to his mother, even in case of successful medical treatment doctors did not give any guarantees. “We were promised that if all goes well, the girl will be able to develop normally. She is still a buoyant, cheerful, clever child” said Dariya.
Versheva’s parents are divorced. The girl’s father, Arthur Mkhitaryants suffers from a drug addiction. Dariya Mhitaryants refused to comment on this aspect of their life, only saying that “he loves her, but as can you realize he is not in a position to help.” Arthur and Darius Mkhitaryants have been married for 4 years.
