Turkish President Abdullah Gul participated in the opening of a new academic year at Yildiz Technical University. However, Gul was not at all satisfied with the fascinating trip to the “fountains of knowledge”. When he entered the building, a group of 30 students held a protest action over a free education.
The police detained the students, who chanted slogans “I want free education” and “Free education is not a crime”. The policemen pulled two of the students by their hair and removed from the building, the Turkish Posta newspaper reports.
Following the incident, the other students began chanting slogans like “Universities belong to us”, “No way to ......” and “We do not wish to see Justice and Development Party at our university."
