Armenian weightlifters returned home late on Monday from the World Weightlifting Championship held in Antalya, Turkey.
Welcoming them Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport was a huge crowd – friends, fans, relatives, MPs, as well as the president of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia.
The Armenian weightlifters were welcomed by a long applause with emotions were running high.
Welcoming them the NOCA President Gagik Tsarukyan said he was content with their performance, especially with the achievements of Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan, who won a gold medal at the 77 category in men’s championship, lifting a total of 373kg.
He said some comforting words to Ara Khachatryan who at the 85kg category lifted 175kg in the snatch exercise winning a small gold, but later failed in the jerk exercise as he injured his arm.
Talking to Ara’s parents Mr Tsarukyan said he was hopeful Ara would recover soon and would restart having successful performance. He also promised to provide Ara with necessary assistance for his treatment.
The sportsmen further came up to their fans, welcomed them and embarked on a cabriolet car which took them to Yerevan’s Republican Square where there were already many fans awaiting for their arrival.
