Azerbaijan is a victim of superficial democracy, Head of ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary group Vahan Hovhannisyan told the reporters on September 28.
According to him, over the recent years the Azerbaijani authorities and opposition have been competing with each other to take up a more aggressive uncompromising stance on Karabakh. As a result Azerbaijan laid a trap not only for itself but also for the whole region, Hovhannisyan stressed.
“If today’s Azerbaijan displays impudence and decides to settle the issue through mutual concessions, the Azerbaijani society may obliterate the authorities. Later on the threshold of elections, Azerbaijan’s aggressiveness in the line of contact, as well as in belligerence and in other things may strengthen, he noted.
As to the Heritage parliamentary faction’s initiative on the recognition of NKR independence by Armenia, the MP emphasized: “It is an issue to be passed unanimously (131 votes) and no deputy should be absent. If there are controversies on the matter, the consideration of the issue should be put off.”
