E. Nalbandyan: Azerbaijan poses threat to regional stability

E. Nalbandyan:
Azerbaijan poses
threat to regional
stability

“The Nagorno Karabakh people being refused to get the right to existence should try to get the right of self-determination. Right of nations to self-determination is the basic and inalienable right stipulated by the UN Regulations. The International Court of Justice advisory ruling pronounced in July confirmed the wisdom of the founders of this organization who cared for one of the basic principles of maintenance of peace and security – right of nations to self-determination – not to be subordinate to the other principles of international law,” Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said during a political dispute held on September 25 at the United Nations General Assembly.
The Foreign Minister expressed an opinion that the Kosovo case will not be the last one and called on everybody to be realistic, MFA press office reported.
“We should not repeat that it is the last case of self-determination. No one is able to stop historic progress; otherwise this organization would not have 192 member states instead of 51 that existed at the moment of its foundation,” Edward Nalbandyan said.
The Foreign Minister also confirmed Yerevan’s readiness to keep negotiating with the mediation of Minsk Group to find a resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict saying that our country completely shares this vision of continuation of talks.
“Unfortunately, Azerbaijan rejects one of the mentioned principles and tries not only to turn upside down the essence of the negotiation process but also to distort the essence of the conflict at international forums, including General Assembly,” Edward Nalbandyan stressed noting that this country tries to mislead the international community by representing the consequences of the conflict as its reasons.
“Azerbaijan’s permanent military rhetoric, frequent cases of violation of ceasefire, and unprecedented increase in military budget aggravate the situation causing anxiety about the fragile peace in the region. Azerbaijan keeps refusing to come to an agreement on non-use of force or threat of force and rejects proposals of strengthening ceasefire,” Edward Nalbandyan stressed declaring that “thus Azerbaijan poses a threat to regional stability and peace.”
