November 20, 2010 12:05
On November 19, in Kars, a team of the GALA TV channel based in Gyumri, Armenia, was brought to local department of the Turkish national security service.
Persons in civvies approached the team and ordered them to stop videoing the Armenian settlements. Later the TV team was brought to the department for identification.
The Armenian journalists were told they had no right to video either in Kars or in Turkey without a permit. The Armenian TV team said they were unable to get a permit for the simple reason that all the officials were on holiday during Kurban Bairam.
The Armenian journalists refused to hand their passports over and stated their rights were violated.
Then the security officers demanded that the Armenian journalists pay a fine. They said it was a legal requirement.
Some time later, the officers began calling somewhere and then told the Armenian journalists that they did not have to pay the fine.
The Turkish law-enforcers delayed the Armenian journalists for an hour and a half. They checked their passports for entry visas. The Armenian journalists were let go and asked not to video record.
