Ankara starts new bargain over border
July 21, 2010 15:59
Despite Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu’s statements, Turkish diplomatic sources are confident the Armenian-Turkish border will be reopened during NATO maneuvers.
Journal of Turkish Weekly writes that, under pressure, Turkey will allow NATO equipment to pass through its territory, particularly through Doğukapı, Kars.
According to the source, the Armenian-Turkish border will be reopened for a certain period.
NATO maneuvers are to be held in Kotayk, Armenia, on September 11-17.
Inconsistent information is received from Turkey. Referring to the Kars Government, mass media reported that Turkey did not rule out temporary reopening of the border. The Turkish FM refuted the reports later. However, the “guarantee” message was intended for Azerbaijan. Now Turkish media are discussing the topic again. Therefore, this issue of public concern is not completely clear as the Turkish FM claims it to be.
